Anime companions are the core progression multiplier in Anime Fishing Odyssey. Each unit passively boosts Fishing Power, follows your character across islands, and can assist during fishing sessions. Understanding how companions work — from your free starter pull to golden Secret-tier variants — determines how fast you catch rare fish and clear sea beast content.

Your First Companion
After the tutorial fishing sequence, you choose a starter anime companion. Every unit provides Fishing Power bonuses that stack with rods and consumables — even low-tier starters outperform fishing with no companion equipped.

Fishing Power & Boost Types
Companions primarily increase Fishing Power, which widens rare fish spawn pools and makes the reel minigame more forgiving. Some units add luck modifiers for Event Egg and wheel spin outcomes. Combat stats matter for sea beast hunts but contribute less to pure fishing income.
Golden and Secret-tier variants appear in community gameplay with dramatically higher stat lines. These are long-term collection goals — prioritize leveling a solid A-tier unit before chasing golden duplicates.
Follow & Auto-Fish Assist
Equipped companions follow your character across islands automatically. Developer gameplay confirms units can assist with fishing — reducing manual grind during extended sessions when properly leveled.
Use the in-game equip-best shortcut when available to swap to your highest Fishing Power roster quickly. After each rebirth unlocks more companion slots, fill every slot before grinding rare fish — empty slots leave Fishing Power on the table.
Index & Rarity Tiers
The companion index tracks which units you have discovered. Missing rarities — especially Rare tier — can gate rebirth requirements at higher tiers, so maintain at least one Rare on your roster even if it is not your primary fisher.
Rarity tiers from community footage include Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Secret. Secret-tier companions can take seven or more minutes to hatch from premium eggs — plan sessions around those timers using our eggs guide.
Leveling & Training Ground
Level companions with in-game currency at island upgrade stations for immediate stat gains. The Training Ground unlocks after two rebirths and auto-levels slotted units — focus Training Ground time on your highest tier companions only.
Early Training Ground sessions grant only one level per slot and may not be worth the setup time until you have Epic-tier units. Mid-game players should push key units to level 10–20 before the next rebirth reset.
Roster Optimization Tips
Replace low-tier units as soon as you hatch better eggs or summon upgrades — sell or remove Commons once Rare and Epic units fill your slots. Rebirth grants two additional companion slots per reset; plan each rebirth around filling those slots with your best available units.
